The 1000+ years old Amer Fort and Ranthambore Fort are some of the largest forts in the world. Taj Mahal is a symbol of undying love of a king to his favorite wife. Keoladeo National Park (also known as Bharatpur Sanctuary) is a unique combination of 27 unique ecosystems that thrive together in a busy crossroads of bird migration paths. Fatehpur Sikri is Akbar’s abandoned dream capital of the Mughal Empire. Made of beautiful red sandstone, attractions like Diwan-i-khaas and Buland Darwaza take one’s breath away. Ranthambore National Park was home to the late Machli, the most famous tiger in the world. It has an amazing 64 tigers (2014 census). Amer Fort is one of the best places to visit in Jaipur and for all the right reasons. Among all the forts in the city, Amer is the most visited and popular among tourists. The palace inside the fort is yet another reason why you must begin your day by heading to the fort. The Sheesh Mahal or Palace of Mirrors is yet another popular tourist attraction here.
Jaigarh and Nahargarh forts are also some of the most magnificent places to visit in Jaipur. The former is located on the Cheel ka Teela or Hill of Eagles, and the latter is also nearby. The forts in Jaipur have a lot of historical significance since they were primarily built for security reasons. The Nahargarh Fort is almost 300 years old and offers a scenic view of the entire city. The Jaivana cannon in Jaigarh fort is its prized possession. It was the largest cannon on wheels in the world.
Jal Mahal is a five-storeyed palace in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. This has to be your next destination after the three forts. The speciality of this palace is that the first four storeys remain underwater when the lake is full, creating an illusion that the palace is floating on water. You can only see the topmost floor of the palace. It boasts of rich Rajputana architecture and looks absolutely stunning.
Start your day with a tour of the City Palace in Jaipur. Located in the heart of Jaipur, the palace boasts of a blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. Give your Instagram followers something to be awed by as every nook and corner of the palace is worth taking a picture. The courtyards, gardens, galleries, you will be transported to a different era altogether.
After the City Palace, head to Hawa Mahal. Built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799, it is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. The speciality of the Hawa Mahal, also called Palace of Winds, is that it has around 953 small windows and has been constructed in such a way that the breeze outside enters the palace only to create a cooling effect. Not to mention, catch a stunning view of the City Palace and Jantar Mantar from the top of Hawa Mahal. We will also be visiting a few museums around Hawa Mahal depending on time.
Now that youβve gotten a glimpse of the Jantar Mantar, you might as well head to the astronomical observatory that grabbed the attention of the entire world. Declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it was built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. You will not leave the place without learning a few things about astrology, astronomy and how people used to track time or predict eclipses back in the day.
Visiting places in Jaipur, especially on a clock, can be tiring. Take a lunch break and head to a restaurant where they serve traditional Rajasthani food. Thatβs how one can soak in the culture, food and get the whole vibe of being in Jaipur. We will be visiting the best sweet shops and restaurants in Jaipur. Once you have had lunch, you can head to the nearby markets to satisfy the shopaholic in you.
Catching the sunset from the Sun Temple is one of the most beautiful experiences that will come out of this trip. Almost 300 years old, it is one of the most important places to see in Jaipur, even if you are on a short trip. The entire journey to the temple is quite interesting. You will have to pass two other temples and will come across a few different species of monkeys also on your way to the Sun temple. The sunset from up here is simply breathtaking. You will head back with a big smile on your face and a peaceful feeling. Now head back to your hotel and take rest, so you are ready for the next day.
