Yes, the road journey is long … really long. But here’s the twist… it’s also one of those classic travel experiences people remember for years.
If you want to skip the tiring part and save your energy for snow, views, and cozy moments, fly straight to Srinagar. It’s the smoothest way to start your vacation.
But
if you’re someone who enjoys chai breaks on highways, Jammu, the slow entry into the mountains, the first glimpse of snow as you cross the valley —
then the road to Kashmir hits differently.
If you want to start your Kashmir trip with blessings, you can upgrade to the Vaishno Devi Maatha add-on for 3,000 INR per person.
You’ll begin your journey one day earlier.
HTC will arrange your stay in Katra and guide you on how to plan the darshan smoothly. If two or more people choose this add-on, we’ll also send a dedicated person to accompany you.
How it works:
Reach Katra a day before the main event date.
Complete your Vaishno Devi darshan at your pace — you can walk or take a horse for most of the route.
After the climb, rest well in Katra.
The next morning, the regular Kashmir batch vehicle will pick you up at Katra and continue the journey to Srinagar.
And here’s something to keep in mind:
Vaishno Devi is beautiful but tiring. You still have Kashmir ahead — Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg — all of which need good energy.
So plan your darshan smartly. If you want to save strength for snow days, taking a horse for part of the climb is absolutely fine.
The good part is, Day 1 of the Kashmir itinerary is light, just local sightseeing, so your body gets time to settle in and recover.
A meaningful start, an easy transition, and a smooth entry into Kashmir.
Either way, Kashmir is worth it.
