SANGLA HOLI – A CULTURAL HIMALAYAN CELEBRATION

Holi in Sangla Valley is part of the traditional Faguli Festival, a 4-day cultural celebration marking the end of winter and the arrival of spring in Kinnaur.

Unlike commercial Holi celebrations, Sangla Holi is rooted in local rituals and community traditions. Processions begin from the Nag Temple, led by villagers, with traditional songs, masked dances, and symbolic performances inspired by local folklore and epics.

Celebrations take place in village courtyards, where people gather, share food, locally brewed Angoori wine, and celebrate together – calmly, respectfully, and joyfully.

Set against the snow-covered peaks of the Baspa Valley, Sangla Holi offers a rare combination of culture, nature, and seasonal beauty. It’s not about loud music or chemical colours, but about experiencing Holi the way it has been celebrated in the Himalayas for generations.

This is why travellers choose Sangla during Holi:

  • To witness an authentic Himalayan festival
  • To avoid crowded, chaotic city celebrations
  • To experience culture in its natural setting
  • To celebrate Holi as a community event, not a party
